Zoo Melaka
Under the purview of the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (DWNP) a federal authority, this is defacto the national zoo of Malaysia, if the name nad not already been in use by Zoo Negara.
As the national rescue center, Zoo Melaka receives any wild-caught or rescued tiger for safe-keeping. There are more than 25 Malayan Tiger specimens at Zoo Melaka today. As the primary holding facility for such tigers, Zoo Melaka is also the defacto captive breeding facility for Malayan Tiger and, arguably, the largest in the world.
The Department of Wildlife & National Parks
The DWNP is the federally-annointed agency responsible for the conservation of wildlife in the country.
At the end of 2010, Parliament approved the Wildlife Conservation Act, 2010 (Act 716), which is now enforced. It superscedes the Protection of Wild Life Act. The DWNP is responsible for enforcing the International Trade in Endangered Species Act 2008 (Act 688)
The Tiger Action Plan
The Tiger Action Plan, a collaborative effort between the DWNP and MYCAT, a loose coalition of NGOs, targets to double the number of wild tigers in the country by the year 2020.
